Stephan Oepen
Professor in Informatics at the University
of Oslo, where he manages a research group in Language
Technology. Oepen studied Linguistics, Computer Science,
Literature, and Russian at the Free University of Berlin,
Technical University of Berlin, State University of Volgograd,
and Saarland University. Prior to his appointment at Oslo,
he worked, among others, at the German Research Center
for Artificial Intelligence, Stanford University, and a Silicon
Valley start-up. His academic specialization is in semantic
parsing, the automated analysis of natural language text into
abstract, logical-form representations of meaning. Oepen will
seek to spread knowledge within NEALT about opportunities
for increased use of National and Nordic High-Performance
Computing eInsfractures, as well as to contribute to dialogue
among interested parties, across fields of specialization and
country borders.
