A professor of Saami language technology at the University of Tromsų. With a background in general linguistics, I am now working primarily with grammar-based language technology for the Saami languages, and to a certain extent also other inflecting languages.

I find NEALT an important organisation, as the Nordic and Baltic countries form a suitable region for scientific cooperation. On many occasions, each country has too small research groups, and on many issues, the Nordic and Baltic countries share the same prerequisites and background, and closely related or even the same languages. The best example of cooperation is the NoDaLiDa conference series itself, but also the NEALT publishing series is an important outcome of our cooperation. In my opinion an important task now is a renewed focus on Nordic research schools in language technology.
