Recordings

Below are all audio and video recordings we have collected with Americans speaking Norwegian.

The recordings are available for research. To get access, use the username and password you normally use for the spoken language corpora at the Text Laboratory. If you don't have a username and password, please register here.

You can listen to the following audio and video files from Norwegian American informants:

1931: Recordings on wax cylinders from Seip and Selmer.

1935 — 1948: Einar Haugen's recordings. For some of the recordings there are also pdf documents with information about the informants and transcriptions written by Magne Oftedal.

1987: Arnstein Hjelde's recordings.

2010 — 2016: Janne Bondi Johannessen's recordings in cooperation with Arnstein Hjelde, Signe Laake and others. Read more about the fieldwork trips.

2009 og 2012: Joseph Salmons' and Kristin Speth's recordings, University of Wisconsin.

2014: Jørgen Jade Sansteads video recordings from fieldwork in Rothsay, Minnesota.

2015: Interviews in English. From fieldwork in the Midwest with Janne Bondi Johannessen, Linn Iren Sjånes Rødvand og Eirik Tengesdal.
