The Past Tense Test was initially developed to investigate children’s ability to inflect verbs in the past tense at different ages. It has later been used for other language user groups, such as children with language impairments, bilingual children, adults with Norwegian as a second language, adults with aphasia and patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

The Past Tense Test is also a part of the Norwegian Adaptation of the Verb and Sentence Test, with new illustrations.

The test consists of 60 pictures of different actions and illustrated verbs from the three main verb classes in Norwegian: strong verbs, the large class of weak verbs and the small class of weak verbs. 58 of these words are found in Norwegian Words.

Psycholinguistic Assessment of Language Processing in Aphasia is a comprehensive psycholinguistic test battery developed to investigate linguistic impairments in speakers with aphasia. PALPA was originally compiled for English, and later translated and adapted to Norwegian.

In Norwegian Words we have used target and distractor words (mainly nouns, but also some verbs) from a selection of the subtests in PALPA, primarily the subtests where imageability and/or concreteness are included as variables.

This is the Norwegian adaptation of the parental report tool MacArthur-Bates Communication Development Inventories (MB-CDI). CDIs have been developed for over 60 languages. The tool covers both early gestures and lexical and grammatical development.

CDI III is intended for children aged up to 4 years old. The tool has been adapted from Swedish, and it contains a 100-word vocabulary checklist focusing on words about food, body, language, ideas and feelings. In the database Norwegian Words you will find information about 49 of these words (only nouns, verbs and adjectives).

The Newcastle University Aphasia Therapy Resources Sentence Processing is one of three booklets with CDs containing material for use in aphasia therapy. This booklet aims to improve the sentence processing among persons with aphasia, focusing on mobilizing verb and sentence production.

The original material was developed in English by speech and language therapists at Newcastle University. The Norwegian version contains 244 verbs and 105 nouns, whereof 203 verbs and 77 nouns are included in the database Norwegian Words.

In an association test, participants receive a cue word, and are asked to respond with the first word that comes to mind. Responses are categorised by their relation with the cue word. The Norwegian association test is available as a long version with 100 words, created and piloted by Bøyum (2015), and a short version with 30 words, created by Malene Bøyum, Ingeborg Sophie Ribu and Pernille Hansen.

The Comprehensive Aphasia Test (CAT) was created to assess language function in persons with aphasia. It contains a cognitive and a linguistic part, as well as a questionnaire. The test was originally developed for English. A Norwegian version has been developed, in connection with an international project where CAT is adapted to a number of European languages.

Norwegian Words contains information about 99 of the 102 nouns and 5 of the 6 verbs that are used as target words in the language part of the Norwegian version of CAT.

Cross-linguistic Lexical Tasks are developed to assess bilingual children’s (aged 4-6 years) vocabulary in both languages. The assessment tool is a result of the European COST co-operation Bi-SLI, which serves the purpose of finding methods to identify language impairments in bilingual children.

The CLT assesses production and comprehension of nouns and verbs by means of pictures that illustrate objects or actions. The words are chosen on the basis of the information provided in Norwegian Words about subjective age of acquisition and phonological and semantic complexity.

The VAST was originally developed for Dutch and later translated and adapted to Norwegian. The Norwegian version of the VAST consists of eleven subtests, and in Norwegian Words you will find both target and distractor words (verbs) from all subtests.
